Wellness Programs

Senior Centers of Spartanburg County Inc. is one of three ground-breaking organizations in South Carolina that began offering Evidence-Based Programs in 2007, called the "Living Well" program in SC. We are working with researchers at the University of South Carolina to measure outcomes and benefits.

Currently the programs being offered are:
Chronic Disease Self Management (CDSMP) and A Matter of Balance (MOB), a falls prevention program.

  1. The Chronic Disease Self Management Program (CDSMP) is a six-week, two hour per week program developed by Stanford University. Senior Centers has trained faciliators who offer the program; two staff members are also Master Trainers and can teach others to become facilitators. Using proven techniques participants can learn how to better manage their chronic diseases.

  2. Matter of Balance (MOB) is an eight week program that can be presented twice a week for one month or can be presented once a week for eight weeks. Classes are two hours long each session and participants will learn techniques and exercises to help prevent falls. This program mirrors one developed by Maine Health. Senior Centers has two staff members who are Master Trainers for this program.
