Senior Centers of Spartanburg County, Inc. formed as an idea in the mind of a forward thinking individual, the late Mrs. Ruth B. Hill, and began operations as a non-profit organization in 1967. Since that time, Senior Centers of Spartanburg County has grown under the leadership of four other executives: Ms. Sue Brown; Dr. Floride Calvert (interim); Mrs. Nancy J. Ogle; and our new Chief Executive Officer named in 2008, Mrs. Sandra K. Owensby. Senior Centers is responsible for providing advocacy, access, and shared funding for senior services within the boundaries (811 square miles) of Spartanburg County. These services integrated with others such as United Way of the Piedmont, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, the Department of Health and Human Services, Lt. Governor's Office on Aging, Appalachian Council of Governments and Spartanburg County, enable all of us to consider the value of research and probable replication of current "best practices" in the field of aging.
